1. What is SecureX and what does it do?
SecureX is an independent, South African digital escrow and transaction management platform purpose-built to eliminate fraud in the peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplace. By combining a secure, segregated Partner Account with automated identity verification and optional physical item verification, SecureX ensures that neither Buyers nor Sellers are exposed to the risks typically associated with transacting with strangers online.
2. Is SecureX a bank? Is my money safe?
No. SecureX is not a bank, financial institution, or investment entity. SecureX acts exclusively as a neutral, independent escrow intermediary. Client transactional funds are held in a segregated Partner Account account facilitated by SecureX's regulated Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) and payment gateway partners — never in SecureX's own corporate accounts. SecureX cannot use your funds as operational capital.
3. How does the Standard Escrow Service work, step by step?
A Standard Escrow transaction follows six steps:
- Initiate — The Buyer initiates a transaction on the Platform. A unique Deal Reference is generated to track it.
- Deposit — The Buyer deposits the full amount into the segregated Partner Account via our regulated payment gateway. Funds bypass SecureX's corporate accounts entirely.
- Verify — The Seller completes mandatory FICA verification (identity, biometrics, and bank account verification).
- Dispatch — Upon successful verification, the Seller dispatches the item and uploads time-stamped photographic evidence through the Platform.
- Inspect — The Buyer has a strict 24-hour window upon delivery to inspect and formally accept or reject the item.
- Payout — Upon acceptance, the Platform triggers an automated disbursement directly to the Seller's verified bank account.
4. What does SecureX charge?
SecureX charges a Standard Escrow Fee of 1.75% of the transaction value, subject to a minimum of R100.00. If you select the Verified Express Service, a flat surcharge of R250.00 applies in addition. All fees are disclosed transparently before any funds are deposited. There are no hidden fees, no cancellation fees, and no deductions from refunds on failed transactions.
5. Do I have to be verified to use the Platform?
Yes. Verification is mandatory for all Users. Buyers undergo a standard identity and AML/sanctions screening check. Sellers complete a more comprehensive process including biometric liveness detection and bank account verification (AVS), confirming the payout account is registered in their verified name. The process is fully automated, conducted from your smartphone, and takes less than 2 minutes.
6. What happens if I am unhappy with the item I received?
If the item is damaged, misrepresented, or does not match the agreed description, formally reject it through the Platform within your 24-hour inspection window. This immediately freezes all funds in the Partner Account and triggers SecureX's 72-hour dispute adjudication process. SecureX reviews all available evidence — including the Seller's dispatch photographs and your submitted evidence — and issues a binding determination. If the determination favours you, a full refund is processed automatically.
7. What is the Verified Express Service?
The Verified Express Service is SecureX's premium, agent-assisted tier designed for higher-value transactions. An authorised SecureX agent is physically dispatched to meet the Seller at a public courier location, inspects the item in person, and witnesses the handover to the courier. Upon the agent's confirmation, funds are released to the Seller immediately — no waiting for delivery or a 24-hour inspection window. A flat surcharge of R250.00 applies in addition to the standard escrow fee.
8. What should I do if I receive a suspicious message claiming to be from SecureX?
Do not act on it. All official SecureX communications are issued exclusively through the Platform's automated messaging system and will always reference your unique Deal Reference number. SecureX will never ask you to make a payment to a personal bank account, bypass the Platform, or act on verbal confirmation from another User. If you receive a suspicious communication, report it immediately to info@secureexchange.co.za.
